Selma Harkink

Chamber music has always held a special place in my heart. My love for this music began at a young age: first as a flutist in various ensembles and later as a singer in a wide range of groups. What appeals to me so much is the close collaboration between musicians and the freedom to shape a story together. For me, this is perhaps most evident in the art song. I thoroughly enjoy the rehearsal process: discussing poetry, interpretation and the composer’s intent together, and thus delving ever deeper into the repertoire. As a result, the music becomes something very personal to the performers. Moreover, this repertoire is often performed in an intimate setting, bringing you very close to the audience and allowing for direct communication. For me, it is the art of listening together, discovering together and telling a story together.
